Our display cases are unique in that they are all made from recycled and salvaged materials. Most of the wood we use has been recovered from very old houses and buildings, but we have been known to stop on busy interstates and roadways occasionally to grab a piece of lumber lying beside the road. We also saw logs of historical nature on our sawmill. These logs usually come from trees with local legends or from trees being removed from around a battlefield and other historically significant places targeted for development.
About 95% of our glass top display cases utilize recycled glass from old window panes. In our cases where acrylic sheets are used for the tops, the material has been rescued from the scrap bins of local glass companies and hardware stores.
For the most part, the felt we use to line the bottoms is material that we salvage from local craft shops and sewing goods retailers, as well as from scraps being discarded from local schools and churches. Ocassionally, we run across unique felts that are new, but have a character that we feel will compliment our cases.
Even the plywood we use for the display case bottoms has been plucked from scrap piles at local cabinet shops, construction sites, and lumberyards.
About the only things that have not been salvaged are the thick felt pads that we apply to the underside of our cases making them safe for table top display, and the brass hardware.
So, while the materials may not be "perfect," utilizing recycled materials allows us to create VERY NICE, UNIQUE, and INEXPENSIVE display cases, worthy of your prized possessions. Simply put, they are "perfectly beautiful!"
After one of our customers received their display case, they wrote to us and stated, "this case is truly an antique long before its time," which is exactly how we feel about each piece we turn out. Each piece has its own history, which can be found in the display case description on our sales page. In addition, each piece is individually numbered and dated.
